What are the different colours?

See our colours section for the available options.

What should I clean my counters with?

We recommend using any non-abrasive mild soap. Regular dish soap water and a cloth does the trick.

How is my counter sealed?

We seal all our counters with a penetrating sealer and then put multiple layers of wax over that. Wax every 6 months, it is quick and easy and for a large sized kitchen takes about 15 minutes. Sealer may be applied every 2–3 years, depending on usage.

Can my counter crack?

Hairline cracking will occur, these cracks do not affect the structural integrity and will add to the character of the piece. The most common areas to have cracking are around sinks and cook top knock outs but really they can happen anywhere. We relate this beauty of age to that of hardwood floors, worn leather and denim.

Can I cut on it?

You can but you may damage the wax sealant as well as your knives.

Will my counter have seams?

It will depend on the piece itself. Some counters will have seams depending on size and installation of monolithic pieces. Seams are carefully thought out in our designs.

Are they smooth?

Our counters are polished till they are as smooth as most convectional counters. That being said there will be some divots and uneven marks in a few areas, some edges can have chips in them or voids, and there will be a few scratches and swirl marks visible in some areas. A project must be examined as a whole and not focused on one section with a crack, chip, swirl or scratch. Concrete counters are somewhat industrial by nature and reflect that in their composition.

Can you put hot objects on the counters?

Hot pots and pans can be put on your counter but may yellow the finish, trivets can be inlaid to accommodate pots and pans.

Is concrete a “green” product?

We do everything in our power to make our products as environmentally friendly as possible. Concrete is a product that can really go either way, if done without care and respect it has the same impact as any other solid surface for counters. But by taking the step we do concrete is a very “green” product, because there are so many steps we take I encourage you to read this article so you can read exactly what we do to lessen our impact on the environment.

What about integral sinks and back splashes?

We will make custom integral sinks for bathrooms only, custom back splashes can be made to order.

Who will deliver and install my counter?

Concrete Cat does offer delivery and installation of the counters we design and manufacture. Anyone with experience installing granite, marble or other stone counters can install our counters.

I don’t live in Edmonton. Where can I find your furniture?

We have a some designs in the gallery for now that you can check out but your best bet is to contact us directly and we can give you a list of what we are carrying at this time. If you live in Canada we will get it to you. If you live in the US it is a bit trickier but we will get it to you. If you live overseas (we have never tried this yet!) we want to get it to you so we will find a way to make it happen.
