Béton exhibition at Kunsthalle Wien

Digital exhibition booklet

International artists narrate a retrospective look at concretes brutalist past and its reactivation in the present as a quality that is often missing in structures and design today. The group exhibition includes works ranging from life casts, photography, paper collage and more, that reflect on social-political histories within architecture, and showcase new applications and representations of concrete today. Béton attempts to challenge the association of nostalgic concrete utopias with a reminder that concrete and architecture extend beyond building material and enclosed spaces. Moving away from its historical and ideologically charged past, concrete is progressive. Concretes flexibility and malleability allows for boundless expressive design and exploration that has in recent years fascinated artists again (hello!).
